The Easter Bunny is here, but Louisiana's lottery takes the day off

The lottery's hitting pause for Easter in Louisiana, but what about the rest of the U.S.?

If you're hoping for a little extra luck in your Easter basket today in Louisiana, you might want to hold off on those Pick 3 dreams. While pastel eggs and chocolate bunnies will be plentiful, lottery balls will be taking the day off.

The state's lottery is hitting the pause button for the holiday. What other states are also hitting the pause button for the Easter Bunny? We take a look at the different state rules here.

No Easter Sunday draws in Louisiana

It will be all about family and spending time together for Easter in Louisiana, as the Louisiana Lottery Corporation announced there would be no Pick 3, Pick 4, or Pick 5 drawings taking place on April 20, Easter Sunday.

These are the only daily draw games the state offers, so there are no other drawings offered on Sundays. According to lottery policy, the drawings are held every day except for Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.

While there are no drawings taking place today, players can still purchase lottery tickets on that day. Any tickets purchased after the draw closes on Saturday, April 19, and on Sunday, April 20, for Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5 will be good for the next regularly scheduled drawing, which will take place on Monday, April 21.

If you purchased multi-draw tickets for any of these draw games, then they will be skipped on Sunday, and the number of draws remaining will be reflected on your ticket.

What other states don't offer Easter Sunday drawings?

With Louisiana not offering any lottery drawings for the holiday, you may be wondering if your state will follow suit. We take a deep dive into this topic and see which states will be operating on Easter Sunday and which states will be shutting down.

We can start confidently stating that no lottery drawings will be held on Easter Sunday for these five states: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. That's because none of these states offers a lottery to their residents, even though Alabama and Nevada have been trying to get one established recently.

For the states that do offer lotteries, it looks like Texas and West Virginia will not be offering any draw games on Easter Sunday either. However, this is only because those two states normally do not offer any drawings on Sundays.

Meanwhile, all of the other states will be conducting their draw games as normal. Some states only offer the multi-state draw games, Cash4Life or Lucky for Life, on Sundays, but those will be running as is.

For the states offering other draw games, like Daily 3 or Pick 4, on Sundays, those will be running as is, also for the remaining states. The holiday is not going to stop them, so hop your way down to your local lottery retailer and buy some good luck for the holiday.

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
